School teachers across the country are amazing. Every day, kids in countless communities pass through school doors and depend on their teachers to help them master their subjects. But there’s another critical area where teachers play a vital role: the idea of health and wellness. Teachers want to foster a healthy and positive school and classroom environment. We want to share some wellness tips that our fantastic marketing team has put together for this article so educators can explore several ways to support health and wellness for their students.

1.     Encourage regular physical activity for health.

We know that teachers have to excel in the classroom. As a result, student fitness can take a back seat to learn. However, physical activity is a primary part of overall health and wellness for everyone. So, even if your school has a gym program, teachers can also help with health. For instance, they can have movement breaks so students don’t have to stay seated in their desks for a long time. These breaks boost mental focus and clarity.

2.     Prioritize mental health.

School is stressful for students, and even small acts of kindness matter. There could be concerns about tests, and some students may feel like a square peg in a round hole. Moreover, students may have troubles and worries they’re experiencing at home or with their peers. Therefore, one of the most important wellness tips is that teachers should always look at students as a whole person and prioritize mental health. Doing so supports children in ways they might now know they need.

3.     Foster positive school relationships.

Another essential one of our wellness tips is that teachers can foster positive relationships. In other words, teachers should actively look to create a positive learning environment in the classroom. One of the ways they can do it is by doing more team projects, informing students about how to work together as a team, and incentivizing students with rewards to work well as a group. Experiencing positive relationships and teamwork have a lifetime of benefits for youth.

4.     Create a comfortable learning environment for students.

The physical space where kids learn matters to wellness. That’s why ensuring every classroom is open, bright, colorful, organized, and well-ventilated is essential. One of the best things a school can do for students is to ensure comfortable seating. Teachers can also make classrooms feel more inviting by adding plants, greens, and blue colors (the colors of nature). If teachers don’t have the funds, they can ask parents to help by raising some funds for schools.

5.     Emphasize to students the importance of hobbies.

Another one of our wellness tips is to support and encourage students to cultivate interests outside of the classroom. Hobbies serve as an excellent creative and health outlet for people. For instance, for students who love sports, pursuing those hobbies gives them a sense of accomplishment. For students who prefer more creative pursuits, such as music, that fosters excellent benefits for their wellness. Music, art, sports, writing, etc., allow students to master skills and go beyond what they need to know to what they love to know.

6.     Promote time management skills.

An essential skill that every student (and adult) needs to know is time management. Teachers play an indispensable role in wellness by teaching students time management. A lack of knowledge of time management causes stress. So, teachers can teach students to set realistic goals and use planners that help them achieve important milestones. Another essential time management approach teachers can guide is taking breaks when students feel they’re on ‘overload.’

7.     Educate students about digital wellness.

Students need to learn about how to use technology positively. The Center for Humane Technology has a Youth Toolkit for educators and parents to learn how tech and social media affect young people. When in the classroom, teachers can educate and inform students about how long they should—and shouldn’t—be online. Class discussions should also address cyber safety and even take a digital detox to ensure balance for a healthy relationship with technology.

Finally, teachers should remember that wellness tips involve collaborative efforts with parents. Therefore, creating one-sheets and workshops for parents to learn about the effects of tech on their children or how to teach time management at home are great initiatives. Creating a united front allows students to hear the same message at home and school so they can establish a wellness foundation for their lifetime.
